A REFERENCE YOU CAN FOLLOW

Every number
should lead somewhere.

A useful comparison starts with a clear food description, a consistent unit and a source you can inspect.

One selected reference

Each displayed fruit points to a specific source record. We prefer an appropriate raw reference for the main chart, keep the food description visible, and retain variety or preparation context.

The same comparison basis

Chart values are grams of total sugar per 100 grams of edible food. Dried references are labelled separately. A serving value is a calculation from a weight, rather than another measurement.

Missing stays missing

We show an unavailable component as “Not reported”. A missing total sugar value is not replaced with a guessed number in the public comparison or calculator.

Differences stay visible

Different varieties, ripeness levels and source records can report different values. We select and describe a reference rather than averaging unrelated sources into a new number.

Read the number in context

A national food database can contain measured, calculated or borrowed values. Being listed in an official database does not make every value a direct laboratory measurement. Follow the original record for its available methods and provenance.

Display values are rounded for readability. Each fruit page identifies its selected source record and reported sugar measure. Some reported total sugar measures differ in definition, so the selected measure is named on the fruit page.
